2024-25 School Opening Ceremony

The School Opening Ceremony, held on 2nd September, 2024, marked the commencement of the new academic year. The event, attended by students, teachers, and distinguished alumni, celebrated the school’s values, past achievements, and the promising future ahead.
The ceremony began with a formal Flag Raising Ceremony, underscoring the school’s commitment to national pride and fostering a sense of unity within the student body. Sister Helen then led a prayer, invoking blessings and guidance upon the entire school community as it embarked on the new academic year.

Ms. Shirley Wong, School Supervisor, delivered the keynote address. Ms. Wong emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, highlighting how challenges are not obstacles to be avoided, but opportunities for personal growth. She shared anecdotes illustrating how setbacks can lead to unexpected discoveries and the development of resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, highlighting the year’s theme of “Resilience.” She encouraged students to embrace challenges as stepping stones towards their goals, reminding them that the journey of learning is often filled with twists and turns, and that perseverance is the key to navigating them successfully.
Principal Mrs. Chan followed with a powerful address centered on the theme “Embrace Resilience, Catalyse Growth.” Mrs. Chan initiated her remarks by engaging students in a reflection on three tasks assigned during the previous year’s closing ceremony: taking adequate rest, developing a new interest or hobby, and completing summer assignments. She emphasized the school’s dedication to nurturing each student’s unique abilities and fostering their resilience in the face of adversity. The integration of Values Education and character formation was highlighted as a cornerstone of the school’s approach to holistic student development. Mrs. Chan reassured students that a variety of student-centered activities would be implemented to support their well-being and empower them to express themselves confidently, building upon the post-mask mandate environment.

The ceremony included inspiring presentations by distinguished alumni. Simone Cheung, the 2023-2024 Student of the Year; Zoe Choi and Nicole Yuen, recipients of the 2023-2024 Sr. Lorraine Scholarship; and Clarian Elizabeth Poliquit (Class of 2021) shared their personal experiences and offered words of wisdom to the students. Their contributions fostered a strong connection between past and present students, underscoring the enduring support network within the school community. Their inspiring messages focused on perseverance, determination, and the pursuit of lifelong learning.

In a symbolic gesture of responsibility and leadership, badges were presented to the Prefect Board, Student Union, and House representatives, recognizing their commitment to serving the school community.

The ceremony concluded with the entire assembly singing the school song, a powerful demonstration of unity, shared values, and school spirit.
The 2024-25 School Opening Ceremony was a resounding success, setting a positive and inspiring tone for the academic year. The event underscored the school’s commitment to creating a nurturing environment that fosters confidence, cultivates well-rounded individuals grounded in strong values, and celebrates the enduring bonds within its vibrant community.
